We are once again using the Godly Play program, very popular with the youngest members of the parish and available to all children from age 4 through Kindergarten.
The children are continuing to explore the holy family and the great family. As the youngest group, their learning is best achieved through familiar routines and use of all of their senses. Using play-dough and the desert-box works well to encourage their thinking about the lives of these important historical figures.
We have merged the 1st through 5th graders into one class, with separate break out sessions based on flexible attendance patterns. Instead of a weekly topic, we explore lessons in 3 week “blocks”.
This rotation-style teaching has proven to be effective (and fun) because it speaks to our kids’ different learning styles and covers each segment in greater depth. Our teachers are focusing on community – how we all belong to this family of Christ. Also, St. Francis and other saints will be explored in great depth, using a rich mixture of drama, art, discussion, and music. Prayer (spontaneous as well as other important forms) will be a key part of our daily devotion to learning and growing in Christ.
The Junior High students have begun the study of the Chronicles of Narnia. We also joined together at St. Aidan’s a few weeks back to celebrate the confirmation of 2 of our students – congratulations Chelsea & Taylor!
Church School
Parish Partners
We began a new program this year called Church School Parish Partners. Parish Partners volunteer one (or more) weeks during the church school year by helping with snacks, stories, prayers, crafts, or activities. Parish Partners are a blessing to the students and the teachers. It is a chance to get to know the youngest of our parish family by helping our trained teachers during classroom time.
